What's the connection?
Introducing #SupportThroughSport
Back Onside work with, offer support and encourage recovery to individuals and teams through focused sport activities. By delivering programmes and workshops; they support and relieve mental health obstacles through peer-support and participation in activities that encourage good health and well-being.
Sport and exercise is proven to improve your mood, increase self-esteem, reduce life stress and ease mental health difficulties. Back Onside put this situation into practice by providing #SupportThroughSport.
Our background as a brand is in football, with our founders Mark Corcoran and Steven Robb playing professional football prior to starting their own company. So when we met the Back Onside team and learnt about their passion and enthusiasm for the importance of mental health and discussed their focus around football, we knew it was a perfect match and were sure we wanted to get involved.
It is commonly perceived that when footballers retire, they experience a big shock and some struggle to deal with the change. By experiencing this change themselves and witnessing many of their teammates go through the same, Steven and Mark felt a real connection with Back Onside's inspiring goals to help the public and many communities. We want to help raise awareness and help others who may be struggling while confronting the stigma there is around mental health and football.
Why is mental health so important?
Back Onside highlight the major issue that here in the UK, 1 in 4 people will experience mental health illness each year, yet it is estimated that only a quarter of sufferers receive help. Therefore, leaving the majority of the UK population tackling these debilitating issues on their own.
Back Onside are determined to rebuild a society where no young person or adult is left tackling mental health problems alone.
How are Bee Inspired getting involved?
We feel as a brand, Back Onside reflects our brand values and believe in raising awareness. To showcase this, we have collaborated to create a Bee Inspired x Back Onside baseball cap.
The main feature of the new cap is the positive messaging on the inner lining of the cap, along with a message card that includes important contact numbers. The concept behind the cap was that a lot of worries can stay in your head and in your mind, the idea is to get these out of your head and talk about your issues.
The cap was created to help raise awareness for mental health issues, with the idea of bringing our customers together and offering support for any issues they may have.
How can you help?
It’s time to help reduce the stigma and discrimination which often surrounds the areas of social issues, mental health and disabilities.
You can help us offer support as the full proceeds of the sales from our Bee Inspired x Back Onside cap will go towards the Back Onside charity, in order to support and raise awareness for mental health.
So it's not just the profit that will be going towards the cap it's the full amount. £25 cap = £25 donated to Back Onside.
If we sell out of the 500 limited edition caps that means at least 20 individuals will be able to receive 3 months of 1-1 weekly support sessions.
The Back Onside Cap is set to launch on the 9th Sept at 16:00 BST - find all the details on this page beeinspiredclothing.com/pages/bee-inspired-x-back-onside
The easiest way to help someone is to give them a safe, non-judgemental space to voice their thoughts. By simply listening to them and being physically and emotionally present is far more effective than trying to offer advice.
