Introducing Josh Taylor, the defending WBC Silver Super Lightweight Champion, Commonwealth Games Gold medal winner and our first ever Bee Inspired Athlete.
Hailing from Edinburgh, Josh currently boasts a perfect 13-0 professional record, 11 of those wins coming from knockout. Josh is set for some pretty big things with his next fight scheduled for Saturday the 3rd of November, where he will be taking part in the quarter-finals of the World Boxing Super Series - Super lightweight quarter-final.
He faces American opponent Ryan Martin, who holds a perfect 22-0 record, in front of a sell-out crowd at the SSE Hydro, Glasgow. We decided to have a catch up with Josh to talk about his career to date and his upcoming fight
How did you get into boxing?
I got into boxing through personal fitness really. I then started sparing and took on one fight at a time which became a bit of a hobby and I realised I was pretty good so kept it going and here I am today, doing alright!
What’s your pre-fight playlist like?
It’s a real mixture which can include 70’s disco, Oasis, house music, techno, anything with a good beat to it!
What’s the training like before a fight?
It’s a rollercoaster of emotions, you’ve got up days and down days which also shows in the gym. The excitement before a fight brings a mixture of feelings but I love it.
Any advice for people who want to take up boxing?
You need to give it your all because it’s a dangerous sport but if you work hard and believe in yourself you can go as far as you want.
Who’s the best fighter at the moment in your eyes?
Mexican fighter Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez.
